You’re baby’s first teeth are precious. But what about before those little pearly whites make their debut… Is it ever too early to start thinking about of your baby’s oral care? Contrary to popular belief, it’s actually very important to take care of baby’s dental health right from infancy. I have to admit I never used to give it much thought, but taking a few moments each day to get your baby’s oral health off to a good start is definitely worth it and helps it to become a part of their everyday routine.

MAM has been a global leader in baby care products since 1976 and I was happy to learn some very important tips regarding baby’s oral health that I’m happy to pass along to all of you. They also kindly sent us a few of their introductory brushes, pacifiers, and sippy cups to get baby girl started and needless to say she had a blast trying them out.

MAM pacifiers were the only brand my son would take as a baby and also have been the only one that my little girl likes now too. They are designed to reduce the risk of misaligned teeth so I feel good about letting her use them as much as she wants. They are also BPA-free and the orthodontic nipple helps promote proper oral development. And how cute are the girly designs? There’s one to match every outfit! Also, not to be forgotten are keeping your pacifiers clean. I know ours end up all over the house, buried in the diaper bag, and dropped over and over again. MAM Pacifer Wipes come in a resealable package that you can easily keep in your bag to wipe off and keep soothers clean.

Even before the first tooth appears, gently wiping the inside of your baby’s mouth and gums with a soft cloth can gently remove germs and leftover milk residue. The MAM Oral Care Rabbit is the perfect little microfibre mitt to gently wipe down baby’s lips and gums (and put on a mini-puppet show at the same time)!

Once that first tiny tooth appears, it’s recommended to start brushing twice a day with a rounded head toothbrush with very soft bristles. Brushing with an age-appropriate brush will gently remove plaque and bacteria and keep your baby’s mouth clean and fresh. The MAM Massaging Brush for 3+ months has different surfaces that your baby will love as it massages the gums and ease’s the pain of the first stages of teething. The extra-long handle is also perfect for guiding your little one and making sure the brush gets into all the right places.

By the time my first child got his first few teeth, one of my biggest questions was when to start using toothpaste. It’s been suggested that at age two a pea-size amount of children’s toothpaste can be used when brushing your child’s teeth. If you use a toothbrush with two handles, then you can help to guide the brushing and begin a good oral hygiene routine from a very young age. What I love about the MAM 6+ month brushes is that they have red bristles in the center of the brush that indicate just how much toothpaste you should be using for an effective clean. This way you’ll never have to guess again how much or how little you should actually be using.

We are also loving the MAM Starter Cups that have been the perfect transition to drinking something other than breastmilk. With a soft spout that gently and slowly lets liquid out, baby has quickly learned how to use a sippy cup in no time at all. They’ve got non-slip handles, are light, and most importantly spill-free (because it ends up on the floor more times than I can count).

It’s never too early to start caring for your baby’s oral health and it can make a world of difference in the growth and development of those precious little teeth.
