KIDS EMERGENCY KIT ESSENTIAL

Nozohaem nose bleed gel
I can’t think of a more frightening experience I’ve been through than the first time my daughter had a nosebleed that just wouldn’t stop! Something about seeing that much blood coming from such a tiny little person was enough to set me in panic mode. Thankfully, we recently discovered a new product called Nozohaem that has become a staple in our emergency kit and the first thing I’ll be reaching for the next time anyone in our house has a bloody nose. But before I tell you more about this amazing product, let me tell you our story so you know WHY it’s so important to me to have this in our house.

Nozohaem nose bleed gelNozohaem nose bleed gelAbout two years ago (when my daughter was around one) we were at a friend’s house for the evening when out of nowhere her nose started bleeding. The following twenty minutes were the longest twenty minutes of my life as we tried to stop the bleeding with pressure, tissues, and ice. I was terrified beyond belief and not knowing what caused it to start in the first place really shook me up (not to mention the embarrassing mess we made at our friend’s home).

About a year later, she had another episode while staying with my mother that resulted in them heading to emergency because the bleeding just wouldn’t let up after about half an hour of trying. While the bleeding did eventually stop, my daughter had a thorough examination and it was concluded that she had probably been picking her nose which led to a broken blood vessel. The doctor assured them there didn’t seem to be any underlying issues and frequent nosebleeds in kids can be quite common. This was so reassuring!

She sat quite still for me this time as I applied pressure and tried to get it to stop, but as the blood continued to pour out for over thirty minutes both of us were getting pretty scared and of course, covered in blood! It was when her eyes started rolling back and she began to pass out that I really started to panic. I called 911 and requested an ambulance to the house (in addition to calling my mother-in-law, and husband because I was at a loss for what to do).

By the time the paramedics arrived, the bleeding had stopped and she was becoming more alert and back to her normal self. They checked her vitals and all was well, which made me feel so much better. In the end, nothing serious came out of the incident (as in the past), but each and every one of these episodes really left me feeling frustrated, helpless, and determined to find a solution to the problem.

I’ll be completely transparent here when I say we haven’t actually used the product yet (no nosebleeds since we received it), BUT just having something like this in our Emergency Kit is enough to make me feel confident for when the next time comes (and with a habitual nose-picker in the house, I’m sure there definitely will be a next time).

The package contains four (4) tubes which aid in the natural healing process of a bleeding nose. How it works is that the Nozohaem gel puts pressure on the bleeding vessel and helps support the natural clotting response and healing process. Usually only one tube of gel inserted into the nostril (along with a little pressure) is all that’s needed to stop the bleeding, but sometimes a second may be used. After the gel is inserted into the bleeding nostril, you leave it there for at least 30 minutes (as long as possible to support healing) and either you can blow it away gently with a tissue once the bleeding has stopped, or you let it clear away naturally on its own.

I’ve kept a couple tubes in our Emergency Kit at home, while I’ve put the others in a bag that I always have on hand for the kids when we go out. I love how small the tube is, it’s discreet enough that it won’t draw undue attention, and the fact that it’s easy to use (even on the go), makes me worry less about what could happen. You never know when an embarrassing situation might come up and this way I’m confident that we’ll be able to hand the situation calmly and be able to get in under control quickly! Do your kids get frequent nosebleeds? I would love to hear how you handle the situation and if any of you have tried Nozohaem.

Nozohaem is available without a prescription in the Nasal Care or First-Aid aisle at your local pharmacy and on Amazon. Click HERE to get a coupon for $4 off your next purchase.
