THE HONEST COMPANY X INDIGO

It’s no secret that I love natural beauty and skincare products, not only for myself but also for my family. Ever since the birth of my first child, I have consistently used natural shampoos, body washes and lotions on my little ones to give them the best possible start and protect them from harmful chemicals wherever I can help it.

I initially heard about The Honest Company (Jessica Alba’s company) during my first pregnancy. The company had just launched a few years prior and what captured my attention was their lineup of uber-adorable all-natural diapers. I loved the idea of natural diapers, (free of chlorine and other additives) and The Honest Company offered a free online trial where they sent out samples for moms to try at home. I ordered a few of their styles for boys and loved them (great quality and of course super cute). I really wanted to buy these for my son, however, with taxes, duties and international shipping, the final cost ended up being too expensive for my diaper budget and needless to say I didn’t end up using them.

Fast forward to August 2015. My second baby was born two months ago and you can imagine my excitement when I learned that Canadian retailer Indigo, (my favorite destination for everything!) now has the largest assortment of Honest products nationwide.  I was happy to try some fan-favorites on my little’s recently (of course I gave them a go too) and am excited share my thoughts with you.

I immediately put the Mandarin Foaming Hand Soap in the kids bathroom for use after diaper changes and cleaning up dirty messes. I love how it creates an intense foamy lather, assuring me that it’s doing its job. The Mandarin scent was very, very mild (and I totally didn’t mind that) because sometimes I think overpowering scents distract you from the quality of a product. After using it a few times I noticed that my hands were not dried out, (especially as the season changes) and maintained a good moisture balance.

The Organic Body Oil is getting great use from everyone in the family. Not only is it gentle on my baby’s skin and perfect for after bath moisturizing, I have even been using it after getting out of the shower in the morning. It’s ultra-lightweight and absorbs quickly. This is a must to avoid greasy spots on clothing or PJ’s.  Oil has always been my preferred moisturizer over lotions, and this unscented version is definitely a keeper.

As winter approaches, along with dry skin comes dry, chapped lips. I normally don’t use lip balms (as I always have lipstick on) but when the seasons change I find myself reaching for a lip moisturizer as part of my nightly regime to keep my lips smooth for lipstick application the next day.  The Honest Co. has an Organic Lip Balm Trio which includes two mild flavours and one “Plain and Simple” for extra protection. While Lavender Mint and Sweet Orange Vanilla are great scents, my preference is the Plain and Simple for literally just that. I also feel confident using this one on my toddler as he’s guaranteed to start licking his lips in colder weather and for sure they’re going to get dried out.

The #1 best-seller Shampoo & Body Wash is just that for good reason.  This product does double duty as a tear-free shampoo and wash for baby, and also a shampoo that mama’s with colour-treated hair can use without damaging their hair. The sweet orange vanilla scent made both my babies smell fantastic after their baths and on into the next day as well. This bottle, along with the matching Conditioner (ultra-moisturizing for the driest of hair) will be rotating between the kids bathroom and mine probably on a daily basis.

Last but not least, Indigo is now carrying the absolute cutest natural diapers out there! Available in an assortment of prints, they’re not just a pretty face! My two month old (with very healthy intestines) took the Size 1 giraffe pattern out for a spin and both her and I were more than happy with the results (as I remembered from the first time we tried them).  They were extremely absorbent, didn’t leak, was soft on her delicate skin and of course chlorine free, hypoallergenic and eco-friendly. Although I haven’t kept up with natural diapers as I would have liked too – now that these are available this side of the border, we may just have to add a few of these pretty patterns into our daily diaper mix.
